DESCRIPTION: “Canto Tropical” is a bilingual program that bridges cultures, generations and borders. It presents and promotes the world of Afro-Cuban music, salsa, and Latin jazz. The music featured on the show comes from around the world—the Caribbean, Central and South America, Europe and Africa. All rhythms and styles within the world of tropical music are presented. Exciting new selections are featured on the show along with insightful interviews with local and visiting artists. In addition, lucky listeners often win tickets to upcoming events.
In keeping with the mandate of KPFK, local artists and musicians are regular guests on the show. This provides them the often hard-to-find opportunity to promote their music, recordings and upcoming performances.
