Originally produced by Center Theatre Group in Los Angeles, in 1976, Neil Simon's "California Suite" was made into a film directed by Herbert Ross, starring Alan Alda, Jane Fonda, Walter Matthau, Richard Pryor, Elaine May, Michael Caine and Maggie Smith. Maggie Smith won an Oscar playing an actress who is nominated, but does not win.
