Rising Up With Sonali is a weekly news and culture program spotlighting grassroots solutions and justice-centered reporting. Instead of sensational headlines, the show uplifts real strategies for building economic, racial, gender, and environmental justice.

Funded entirely by listeners, Rising Up is fiercely independent. Its theme music comes from Grammy Award–winning band Quetzal, with editorial partnership from YES! Media, a leader in solutions journalism.

Sonali Kolhatkar

Sonali is the host, creator, and executive producer of Rising Up With Sonali. She previously created and hosted Uprising, which became the longest-running drive-time show on KPFK hosted by a woman. An award-winning journalist recognized by the Los Angeles Press Club, Sonali is also the author of Rising Up: The Power of Narrative in Pursuing Racial Justice (2023) and Talking About Abolition: A Police-Free World is Possible (2025).

She serves as Senior Editor at YES! Magazine, Senior Correspondent for the Independent Media Institute's Economy for All project, and is a longtime Pacifica broadcaster.
